Navratri 2011: Modi inaugurates mega govt event

Chief minister Narendra Modi inaugurated state government's Navratri 2011 festival in the presence of high commissioners of 17 countries, his cabinet colleagues and other political leaders at Gujarat University ground in the city on Wednesday.

The chief minister said that the Navratri festival had helped Gujarat to mark its presence on the tourist map of the world.






Though it was scheduled to begin at 7 pm the programme only started at 8:35 pm. It began with the inauguration of Sant Nagari and theme pavilion. After that, around 300 artists performed prasid parmeshwari, a dance performance based on the eight Shaktipiths in the state.



The event is jointly organised by Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TGCL) and Gujarat Industrial Navratri Festival Society (GINF), an industry body headed by member of Parliament, Parimal Nathwani.



Speaking on the occasion, Modi said that now garbo has become global. "With the help of events like Patangotsav, Rannotsav and Navratri, Gujarat has now established itself on the world tourism map," the chief minister said. He announced that Tankara, the birth place of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati in Rajkot district, will be developed as a tourism spot.

Similarly, mini replicas of all the 52 shaktipiths in the country will be set up at Ambaji temple in Banaskantha.
